We Believe:

Reducing food waste

“Our Community, Our Responsibility”

Sweetsurplus is a non-profit organization that works to reduce food waste by linking bakeries with homeless shelters to give unsold items. Our objective is to establish a sustainable system in which extra food is redistributed to those in need, therefore addressing both food insecurity and environmental issues. By creating relationships between local bakeries and shelters, we ensure that fresh, healthy items that might otherwise go to waste are used to help needy populations. Through this effort, we hope to raise awareness about food surplus management and have a good influence on hunger in our communities.

Supporting vulnerable communities with fresh food

Building partnerships between bakeries and shelters.

Our Programs

Food Waste Program

Coordinate planned pick-ups of leftover items from local bakeries for charity donation, particularly around the holidays. This approach guarantees that people in need receive fresh food while avoiding waste. Over 500 unsold breads donated to local homeless chairty

Ambassador Program

Our ambassador program raises community awareness and empowers individuals to lead initiatives in local districts. Ambassadors play an important role in teaching their communities about food waste, the value of sustainable habits, and the effect of our food donations. By engaging local communities and companies, ambassadors help promote a culture of collaboration and accountability in tackling food inequality and waste reduction.

About the Founder….

I am Perry Wei Jhong Lee, a 17-year-old from New Taipei, Taiwan. During the Wharton summer program, I co-founded Sweetsurplus with coworkers, motivated by a desire to combat food waste and insecurity. Our objective is to connect local bakeries with charity, guaranteeing that unsold items are redistributed to those in need, so providing a sustainable and humane solution for our communities.
